the secure high performance chat that comes with your web hosting is a http://wiki.dreamhost.com/Jabber server. it's been setup for some time so you can start by testing it out. send me your email address by pm and i'll add the users for a pilot rollout. integraetion with rsf is the most difficult part and this was the previous sticking point.

there are many jabber clients available . we can discuss further and move forwardf if you want.

yes, you must create a [email protected] account. right now yo're on google so the number of free users is limited. we have other options using rumsoakedfist.com email addresses for unlimited free users. discussion is needed.

I've been poking around for another project and saw this java chat client. the pricing seems in line with rsf and does not incur additional bandwidth or server resources. not sure about the security or branding possibilities, but i thought i'd share with all.

I registered an IRC channel on irc.freendode.net called #rumsoakedfist. All you need is an IRC chat client. I use XChat, which is free and cross platform (Linux, Windows, and Mac)

Windows/Linux: http://xchat.org/download/
Mac: http://sourceforge.net/projects/xchataqua/files/

There are many other free clients, including a web based client here:

http://webchat.freenode.net/

On the web based client in nickname, pick a nickname. In channels, type #rumsoakedfist
You dont need to check either box, but you do need to type in the words that show up in that image. You should then
connect to the channel and see brennanos in there.

Feel free to give it a try.

I love how this ongoing thread about how there is still no chat is entitled "Chat is up!"
