Part of it could be to do with the site not having ssl. Browsers currently dislike that and may not save passwords as they would normally.

If this gets posted, the site is working for me now.

The login things is annoying.

As for the erased posts (after being prompted to log in yet again), for Firefox, one simply needs to hit the *back* button and the text will all be there. Saved me many a time. The second go usually works.

Yeah same in Chrome and probably IE -- any half-decent browser will cache the form data before the form is submitted, so hitting 'back' button right away should get your text back. I usually copy the text after that first time though, just in case...

All in all -- yes this site has had this problem for years now; it's nothing new really, at least not to me.
And yes, would love it if it could be fixed, but it's not exactly depriving me from sleep...

So Graham -- HTFU. ;D

Sure, you can just use the back button; but, you still have to copy what you want posted. :)

Hi Steve, I almost never have to do that. It just works. Although, I think I often hit preview first.

I suspect as well that the more often occurring problems probably stems from the site being constantly larger, but also due to an outdated MYSQL version. If people can't login, the login attempts become more frequent and I suspect that the database cannot handle too many requests at the same time. If not all of the systems, hardware and software, are being updated constantly and together, there will be glitches in the communications between them.

Part of it could be to do with the site not having ssl. Browsers currently dislike that and may not save passwords as they would normally.

Don't think so, I have had this login-problem for many years, sometimes more, sometimes less. Not having SSL is still no real problem for common homepages except for that Chrome especially tries to scare away visitors. Some of the pages that I work with still have no SSL but rank better in Google than ever before. I suspect difference between having or not will be more visible in a few years, but for the moment still no real difference on how browsers treat non-SSL homepages. In the future it might become necessary, but this is IMO not the problem that should be taken care of first.

But had to log in several times to reply....

The problem is - it's so hard to post that people will just stop making the effort, and the forum will die.

I say let's nuke it and start again.

It was twice just this week when I dropped the idea of replying to something because it takes so many attempts to log in to do so. Guess many other participants are experiencing the same issue.

It is a bit ridiculous to have to go through so many hoops to post, no matter what chopper would think. Cloud hosting is pretty cheap, lots of more advanced software options out there, no reason not to archive this and get the search working but direct all new content somewhere else
