one thing I'm sure you're aware of, is that in a real fight you could be winning and all it takes is a slip like that and you're F-ed. So essentially this guy would have won if this was a no rules event despite the fact you were in the lead. This would have been "i was winning up until the point that he beat me" and his story would have been "I was losing the fight but he fell and I ended up kicking his ass".

So as someone who has met you personally and considers you a 'bro', I'm telling you this as a friend - you lost the fight the moment you fell down - he just happened to have gotten disqualified at the same time. Be more careful next time.

I went to a full-contact fighting event tonight.

Is it striking only fight like kick boxing?

Well sure, if I we were (for some odd reason) following the same ring rules in a street fight and he decided to violate one of those rules, then yeah I woulda been in trouble (though why that would ever happen I can't imagine). But seeing as in a street fight I'd be striking with hands, feet, knees, elbows, shoulders, hips, as well as sweeping, throwing and using joint locks, etc the fight would likely have ended much sooner, or as soon as he was stunned I'd just take off and get outta there. The fact is that I was playing their game and following their rules, if I'd wanted to violate the rules like he did, I could have done so and been disqualified, but that's not what it was about. Kinda like watching a boxing match and sayin' "Yeah but if he was to pull a gun his opponent would be facked" true enough, but completely outside the parameters of what was going on at the time...

Sometime you won a match that was not the way that you want to. In one tournament that my opponent was a wrestler. He shoot into my legs twice and I pulled him down in front of me twice. Both rounds lasted less than 7 seconds of each. It was 100% effortless and I just borrowed my opponent's force and redirect his force downward instead. I was expecting a much tough match but it turned out to be the easiest 2 rounds that I ever had in my life time.

One of the things I found to be valuable about this kind of fight is that, because it uses boxing rules, it forces you to develop your hand skills and also to develop your defense against rapid punches to a high degree. And, of course, the high-pressure intensity of someone (in this case someone much larger and stronger) trying to knock you out. To be able to maintain one's training under such restrictions and in such chaos as a bar brawler trying to tear your head off is not an easy thing to do, but it is a great way to test one's own response to chaotic violence.

^I've been actually looking into joining a straight up boxing gym. Great place for hand skills and reaction time. Probably take on other stuff in the future, but that's where I'm at right now. At least it'll have me fighting in addition to the Ba Gua training and other stuff I'm currently doing.

Plus, you know, the cardio and weight loss shit is good.

because it uses boxing rules, it forces you to develop your hand skills and also to develop your defense against rapid punches to a high degree.

You can also develop/test your "arm wrapping skill" such as over hook, under hook, head lock, bear hug, ... in boxing ring.
