Two questions...??..

Postby Edwardo on Thu Jul 10, 2008 10:39 am

Hi everyone!

first question is regarding the old thread on research showing the small mucles used in ima like anterior deltoids, lower trapesius and serratus anterior muscles........do you think it is a waste of time to train them with conventional resistance methods such as free weights or clubbells? is it just best to train them within the ima context?

second question is could anyone be so kind as to post some clips of xingyi neigong,,,especially drilling fist and beng chaun???!!??

cheers!

Training mucles through resistane training will help make the muscles stronger. This is only a bad thing when the strength of different muscles becomes imbalanced. For example someone with extremelly strong chest might be able to generate so much power pushing someone they pull their own back muscles. Also remember that weight training doesn't utilize arge ranges of motions and doesn't bring to bear using many muscles together, which is what is done in martial arts. Balance your training between isolation and other exercises.

The only advice I ever got about weights is avoid isolation training and stick to the big compound lifts as they will hit these muscles in the prcess, snatches are great for all those secondary muscles round the shoulder girdle and upper back.

see if you can learn some exercises particular to the style that your train that conditions these for you (specifically). If you're learning more than just forms and push hands your shifu should have a bunch of supplementary exercises for this.

Resistance training will not do it for the small muscle groups referenced in the earlier threads - at least not conventional resistance training. There are specific exercises and "focus" for these - do not try to do this without an experienced teacher. You will hurt yourself.
