training question

Postby Edwardo on Thu Jul 10, 2008 10:57 am

What do you think of the idea of someone doing just nei gong for the different jinns as well as standing practice and nothing else?

do you think having the root/structure from the standing and the internal power of the fascia for the different planes of mvement would be enough to go into a situation with and come out standing or at least not badly hurt?

sorry if bdbf!

Add partner drills and live sparring -- you've got Yi Chuan.

What would you do with a 428 cubic inch V8 engine, without everything else that makes a Mustang GT-500?
Could be bdbf, but still a valid question. Welcome to the forum.

I am not sure what you mean when you say niegong for the different jins.

As to your second question strength alone, any kind of strength, is never going to be enough by itself to guarantee success. Knowing how to use what strength you have is much more important.

Deus thanks again!

what my thoughts were is that isn't neigong training strength through combat ranges of motion very similar to the strikes themselves? i'm talking mainly xingyi...

but yeah, like it wouldn't be the same as training striking full power or with an moving opponent.

cheers

Well surely an 800 lb gorilla with all its natural strength could defend itself with its own internal power, but for the average size person strength is most useful when applied via proven martial arts techniques. Jin and fascia training alone is fine for health and effortlessly putting out the trash, but for self-defense it is inadequate unless you know the techniques of applying it. Someone goes to hit you in the face, and you express pengjin to intercept the punch - then what - this is where the techniques taught in form applications show you, i.e., what to do next so he won't try to hit you again.

Yes it is BTDT. Don't you heard of one of the most quoted MA sayings - "練拳不練功,到老一場空 ... 練功不練拳,由如無舵船!" Train the quan and not the gong, when you're old you'll have nothing (meaning your stuff is fake)...Train the gong and not the quan, you'll be like a ship without rudder! (meaning you're not going anywhere)
