Well, maybe...maybe not. :P Time will tell, eh? ;)

And FYI, Sifu Lee is presently only 108 years of age, not 200 years sold, but that's still pretty cool, IMO. 8-)

cool video shawn. it's nice to see the influence of capoeira in the BJJ (about half of the things he does in the video are traditional movements from capoeira).

KETTLEBELLS! Once you can do a Turkish Get Up with a 70lb Bell, you'll be a monster.... If you're in Shreeveport, are you training with the Johnny Kwong Lee guys? A few years of good instruction in Fu style along with a solid KB regiment will carry you very, very far.

Yes, I'm learning from Master Guerin, who took over the internal arts and then the external arts, when Johnny Lee left for Dallas (3 hours away). I'll look into the kettlebells, I've honestly never looked into them.

Thanks for all the posts.

Thank Josh Vogel.

He posted it while back and I instantly put it in my save file. This stuff awesome sort of work as far as I'm concerned.

You need to activate your inner simian.

i agree. at some point soon i want to really dedicate some time to regular monkey-body training. all the different methods of rolling, crawling, springing and bouncing, hanging and climbing, tongbei-style arm swings and slaps, etc.

shawn if you're really that into it, maybe you should try to find a capoeira angola group.

is josh vogel josh who translates all the crazy chinese who was in beijing with tomasz?

Supplemental training- try 3 basin walking slow. that is low, medium, and high circle walking. totally perfect for the beginner.

No, that's another josh.

Josh Vogel (butterball) is a student of Frank Allens who switched to BJJ. He doesn't post that much anymore.

Maybe Master He or someone else who's gone through that kind of training can remark on it, but I think you want to be real careful with weights while you're doing bagua. Heavy weight plus deep twisting can make for some injuries to the body I'm thinkin.

Supplementing is different from changing the actual practice.

Best,

I don't know about chest and ankles, but maybe some added weights to the hands.

I'm going to grab the good advice here and there, learn basics, then worry about training my upper half as far as strength, probably go the kettleball route when I learn to do it properly and without tension building up.
