Postby neijia_boxer on Tue Jul 29, 2008 6:47 am

What method were you taught?
front leg/back leg:
0/100
40/60
30/70
20/80
10/90?

or combination of all?

which method do you prefer and why?

Depends on how low or how high you are. Depends if you are training or live sparring. Depends on allot of things. :)

i was taught 10/90 but i prefer 40/60, I find being single weighted helps strengthen the the leg, but you sacrifice mobility... ... others here might feel different

What method were you taught?

Santi practice = around 30/70
Form practice = around 50/50
Sparring = definitely 50/50

which method do you prefer and why?

It depends what you are practicing, as Jose said.

I like the measure if when you kneel with your back leg the knee is at the heel fo the front foot.

for standing practice, i prefer a back leg weighted stance: anywhere between about 70/30 to about 90/10, depending on how my legs are feeling.

I was re-reading Li Tianji's xingyi book and he mentions that the stance of santi (distance between front and back legs) changes depending whether you are in santi or practicing piquan (with the santi stance being longer). Do other folks adjust the length of their santi as well, and if so does this mean that the santi posture length changes with function/purpose as well?

right- i was going to put 50/50 up but then took it off. I was taught some 50/50 to move backwards in sparring.

so basically it varis. 0/100 is definetly good leg work. so is 70/30 on front leg with a low stance with knee almost touching the ground.

We do standing training mostly 70/30. In sparring it's always shifting, since I don't really stand still when sparring. My teacher said 'move like the wind, root like a mountain.'

Personally, I like 73.25/26.75 distribution myself.

Mike,

That's only good for leg training and not for fighting. You should train how you would fight. Personally I prefer going from 43.25 to 56.75 percent. On my lead foot I like to distribute the 43.2 percent weight at 30% big toe, 10% on all the other toes and 30% on my heal. -lol-

50-50
though sometimes we did 70-30 for training purposes.
