I'll reserve judgement on that until I see his actual student's performance, as opposed to him slapping around his students. Reputation as a fighter is one thing. Reputation as a teacher is another. I've seen teachers I thought were horrible, but had some of the best students around, simply because they were better at imparting than they were at doing or they were lucky enough to have a talented student who could fill in their gaps.

if you can afford it i would pick both sak and su.

training at sakuraba's place will give you plenty of guys to train hard with, multiple times a week, and su can give you something to work on that goes deeper than what the mma guys are doing, but also has (the rep at least) of knowing teh real, so his stuff should not be BS.

I can most definitely not afford it.

I'd be looking to make contact with Kubota Toshihiro's Tenjin Shinyo Ryu JJ/Kodokan Judo school.

Also Kuroda Tetsuzan is near Tokyo

distance issues for all three. Also, generally not interested.

The systema teachers in Shinjuku are excellent if you want another option.

Su has told me he thinks Sakuraba is one of the best fighters in Japan. He regularly holds him up as an example for his students.

Without having met Su's students, and to roundly and sweepingly generalize, I think MMA fighters are in general more ready for a fight than TMA people, because they know that they are gonna get clocked sometime and train for it. Right now, that's the kind of thing I am looking for. And if Su likes Sakuraba, then that makes it make even more sense to go there. Sakuraba himself is one of the most creative fighters I've seen in the MMA ring, or anywhere else. Something like that can't be taught, but it can be learned.
