0 to 60

I know a lot of you are into bridging and sticky hands, but IMO if you can go straight to KO as soon as a fight starts - Bugatti Veyron style - it's just counterproductive to bridge first.

I'm not talking about striking speed, but how to go from zero to KO using the least amount of time/distance.

So how many of you practice this, and how?

If you don't bridge then you will potentially run into our opponents defenses upon entering.
Maybe the question should be, what is the quickest method to cross the bridge and get the KO?

I'm not understanding this? Don't you just go down the center for your target and the bridge is the result of them having not let you hit them?

Maybe I think about it differently.

S- doesn't TRY to bridge as many techniques as that may beget

Shawn- i am sorta opposite. i act like a bridge layer! i don't really care about striking to hurt, i just try to tie up my opponent to get him to wrestle me. it is easier to tie a guy up and take him down- i try to act kinda like an octopus. (and if he is a better wrestler than me, then i am screwed anyways!)

so if i can't bridge, then i get beat up AND i can't throw him/ take him down. then i'm screwed. but that's just me.

I'm stuck in my low level mentality.

I need to practice more throwing so I can understand what you guys are talking about, but I'd still rather put someone on the defensive with blows and maybe just end it all rather than wrestle. Sounds like work.

Best,

S

Edit: It's nice to see the japanese have always been down with the tentacles, they have an endlessly refreshing weird outlook on life.

I allways saw bridging as a method of obtaining superior position through redirection of the opponent, SO if you are in position to throw the KO in the first place, you have already done your bridging and are ready for the kill.

A strike is a setup is a strike, right. You just ride that shit in with whatever feels appropriate from whichever range, right?

Hit, lock, throw, submit, whatever right?

I think it's a chicken egg thing based on personal preference.

S- just sayin

Seems like a pretty good description to me Shawn.
You enter with the intent to hit, seeing if anyone is home. If they defend, you use the defense as a method to move further down the bridge and work yourself towards a throw, etc. I think the key here is having entry methods that are low risk and high success. Using angles of approach that put you in a superior position, where your opponent will have difficulty countering, and if they do it is potentially setting them up further.
There are always going to be methods of approach in where a bridge will be easier and safer to establish based on where my opponent is in space.

I say bridge if you have the opportunity, just don't chase the bridge. :)

Contact is bridging, what distance or what body part you use doesn't matter. A punch to his face, strike his nose with your head, kicking him in the nuts - everything when you physically reach your opponent is bridging.

. . . But that is also why I don't like this South-China terminology . . .

I hate to have to embarrass you in front of all your friends, but you're wrong. ;D

My idea is that I don't want to find out what kind of a fighter my opponent is.

So I look to KO in the space between escalation and action, i.e. before his hands are up.

Is fist straight to the chin a type of 'bridge'? I think that's irrelevant.

Hands on your opponent, non-threatening, somewhere in the vicinity of his head, less distance & telegraphing - that's a good bridge. Is that what you meant?
