Who is this 'Master Wong'?

Postby jonathan.bluestein on Tue Jan 15, 2013 6:31 pm

He has been on youtube for quite a few years now. Now heavily promoting Wing Chun, if I recall correctly I've also seen him promoting his 'combative Taiji' in the past... Or perhaps it was a similar looking guy? Not sure.

I'm just interested in his background. Also, regardless of content (obviously some people here might have reservations over some of his stuff), I find his videos very entertaining to watch. He's like a 21st century Bruce Lee figure. I like his 'thing'. 8-) Cool cat. There's much to learn from his marketing gongfu ;)

I heard on martial arts gossip line that he studied some serious Baji in the past. I think it may have been on this board.

Within the context of teaching and reality, he is authoritative, to the point, and is a great teacher!

I am no fan of his Taiji - I can't speak for his WC - but he is a colourful character, right enough, and there is nothing wrong with that.

He has been posting a lot of taiji apps lately. Just check his vids. Except From having a quite external approach and relying too much on pushes, he seems to have some good tricks up his sleeves.

From his website (http://masterwongacademy.com/ask-questi ... y-faq.html).

Question:
Who is master Wong's teacher?

Answer:
If I told you I would have to kill you! To the serious point what does it matter? Would it affect your training? Is knowing whom I train from going to make any difference to your training? Surely there are more important things to concentrate on then whom I socialize with? e.g your training.

I will not use my Master's name to promote myself. Should I become successful I know it's not because I have been name dropping to get where I am.

This guy could have been an excellent lawyer :D I don't like people 'hiding' their teachers, but I really liked the phrasing of his answer ;D

It might make a difference if, say, someone learned from DVDs and the occasional workshop I guess -shrug-

Why would it? Either he can teach people what he says he can, or he can't.

Perhaps, but it may be cheaper to buy the DVD yourself

Just sent him a message asking if he would like to contribute to this thread. Seems the fair thing to do considering it is his teaching / school we are discussing here.

p.s love the fact that if you post a link to a RSF page then Andy S, my little pony ,gif imagine comes up by the link :D
The last thing I want to do is hurt you. But it's still on the list.

He seems pretty intense and teaches his guys a lot of fighting, good for them.

It would be interesting to see up against a resisting opponent.

I just love his character and quips, he's good at what he does and very good for the MA's, we need more characters like him!
