Learning to mud step low

Postby ParryPerson on Tue Oct 07, 2008 9:03 am

As some of you might know I'm incredibly new to bagua, and the thing that has been giving me the MOST problems (as compared to the normal amount of problems with everything else ;D ) is the mud step. I get that the feet rise and fall level, thats not my hugest problem, the problem comes when I try and sink.

if I stick my butt out I can get lower, but the heel rises off the push stretch, and my waist isn't tucked. When I sink and then try to tuck my waist, I rise, and put more pressure on the ankles to bend to the shin. Is there something I'm missing? Will my ankles/waist/brain (haha) shape up in time? I see some peoples steps actually twist to the outside before the push, or during, is this the key?

Ignore if you want as always! Just a newb fielding horrible newbie questions to people much smarter than he! :)

It takes time.
Practice standing in the mill stone pushing posture and sink there.
Don't worry about doing low posture walking for the first couple years.
Let your body develop naturally over time.
Remember, your not in a race, and these things to take time.

ps. don't stick your butt out. :)

Really a good idea no matter who you are! ;D

Thanks for the post, I'll try that stance, and take my time.

Takes time. If you try to catch it you will miss.

I stick out my butt and open my chest and walk low, I can apply my bagua from open body low position : ).

Sounds like you should not try this perry, you sound like you train a turtle back postural bagua method.

Not intended to confuse young-en, just know bra, there is more than one way to train bagua/skin a cat.

Turtle back! Thats exactly the term I would use to describe it. My teacher likened it to being almost "gorilla" like with a rounded low shape that can move quickly. I didn't entirely understand it. It's Fu style, I guess it is "turtle back".

Neat!

Yeah just to clear it up me saying "really a good idea no matter who you are" was a joke unrelated to martial arts :p

Yes, but the heel rises off the back when I go for that front leg stretch.

Charles: Why do you ask? I sent you a message :)

Thanks. Just curious since there aren't that many Fu style teachers in NA. Happy practicing.

You to! I didn't realize how rare it was until after I started classes.

No worries Master Mix

I did not think you where dissing anyone at all in any way.

Lonnie

We in the great northwest should stick together, even if you are, you know.........Canadian.
Do Canadians mind if an American like me blames everything on Canada?

We don't mind as long as two things are promised:
1) you will let us blame everything that is wrong in our country on America
2) you promise not to bomb us. ;D
