18 Lohan

Postby Steve on Tue Oct 21, 2008 7:38 am

Hi
Soon I'm heading out to learn the 18 Lohan. I've been doing qi gong for whatever and I realize there are many variations regarding forms. Do people know the basic differences bewteen the 18 lohan and lets say iron body, muscle tendon change, marrow washing classic, standing post exercises, 8 brcades. e-mailed someone once about the 18 lohan and he mentioned his school would do tapping, hitting on various parts of the their body, so it seemed there could be an iron body component to the 18 lohan.

Hey Steve,

Who are you going to be learning from?

What I know about the set is that it is a chi gong held at various levels in the stances. Didn't know it had an iron body component. Perhaps that is in addition to the actual set.

Looks like this:

that looks like the set i learned as well. there are differences in the transitions between the set i know and that one in the clip, but the sequence and postures are pretty much the same. i was never taught about an iron body component, either.

Many version's of I8 Lohan many revision's no one can really say what is more original now- CLF has a few versions.
I believe original one had just had 18 Lohan Hands- wild goose level up wings, black tiger stretch waist, push mountain, level down and hook back and so on up to 18 actions or 'hands".

Weitou chi kung mighty force chi Kung etc are tendon training division more static

Marrow washing static and active postures and self massage ( non sexual )

18 lohan more active- build strength activate the blood

Thought to be more original chi kung method's of Damo not M/A- but WTH really knows???

The shadow..... ;D

Sorry I don't really know. I'm guessing it's from a CLF player. The guy on this clip seems to indicate that he is a "Shaolin" practitioner. That could mean a lot of things.

18 Lohan was pretty hot. Current Lohan looks like she's 53.

Ta Mo's 18 was the first Chi Gung set I ever learned. Not sure about the iron body component, but I do know that each of the exercises has a very distinct psychological effect. This is really not surprising, since those Buddhist monks are all about consciousness expansion. It's a really nice set that covers every possible body movement in Shaolin Gongfu.

I always associated iron body more with the Muscle Change and Marrow Washing Classics. Sifu liked to call them "internal bodybuilding" exercises.

This is pretty much the same 18 Louhan I learned as well. From what I know of it, it is not the original Da Mo 18 Louhan, but more recent and custom built to fit CLF's needs, based on the original technology.

Although, I have heard the Da Mo Qi gong's never actually existed in the first place, and the core Song Shan Shaolin Qi Gong's are just attributed to him in an honorary sense, as legend has it.
