how much pain in ur game

Postby wiesiek on Wed Jan 21, 2015 7:29 am

I discover deep inside me - love to the sword recently,
so
I add 1 h., of the sword forms to my everyday workout,
+ re -introduced myself to the some weight training , then
in the morning I have hard time with beginning of the day :D

no pain no gain - we all knows this,
but
how much?
when you`re close to the 60` y.o., and still like to grow fast, not to break ...

I have some experience, so, I`m not going with trainings like like "back to the my tournament days" 8-) ,
however, sometime I have impression, that I`m pushing too much or to little ...
how to find the gold ?
-some rules ?
-mind to share teachers/yours experience , if you please .

With your experience, I would imagine your body should be telling you very clearly "how much" it needs or wants.

If there's any doubt, I personally would err on the side of caution (i.e. "less pain"), even though I always liked to push myself further than most (around me).
Of course, others' mileage will vary...

When you push yourself you will always feel some pain in the morning. I'm 58 and I like to take two days off per week. Usually Monday and Thursday.
That being said I'm considering starting in Silat which would add 4 days/week, 2hrs/class. I'm already groaning over and looking forward to it.

Pain is for the other guy. I want my training to make me feel better, not worse

To qualify - im not 60 yet but the following works for me...

The body adjusts and what was hard on day 1 will get easier with careful daily practise. Just pick a moderate level and be patient.

Pain will happen and is a reality but there is a difference between pain & being damaged.

If things are unbearable take a day or two off (or more), understand what you did wrong, get a good masseuse or someone to do a look over. If required find ways to keep going (something is always better than nothing), lower the intensity, change the exercise.

Joint circling. Pavel Tsatsouline's "Super Joints" is a good resource.
Kettlebell swings followed by get ups.
Pavel's "Simple and Sinister"
Swings: 5 x 10L/10R
Put the bell down for a few seconds between hand switches. Swing at the top of every minute until you get all 100 swings in. When you can do it in under 5 minutes and your form is good and you feel like you really "own" the bell move up in weight.
Get ups: 5 x 1L/1R
Get ups should be done in under 10 minutes. The program can be done daily. The "simple" goal is using a 32kg bell for both swings and get ups. The "sinister" goal is 48kg.

thank you , good advices

I intuitively added/returned to the kettlebells , not in the morning and 48 kg , dough :)
I follow the internal sage themeplate -qigong/lot of joint circling/ in the morning , heavy workout - afternoon,
my addition: evening - hot tube with plenty of salt.
We have old salt mine - near by Krakow, kinda of super -duper salt, from the time when our whole planet was Jurassic park .
Similar effect you can get from Death Sea salt , but it is much more expensive option. Ordinary sea salt works , but a little, not so deep not so good...
