The Li Taiji of Li Rui Dong has a form called Five Star Hammering Boxing. This form was composed by Li and his original Taiji teacher, Wang Lan Ting (supposed to be a student of Yang Lu Chan), based upon the five fists of Yang Taiji. This is the context in which I first heard of the Five Fists of Taiji.

To judge a thing (veracity/discernment), I have been unable to find any references in present methodology to Yang Family taijiquan with 5 Hammers hence my questions. It seems to be a domain of Xu Yu-sheng of his Yang generation but unknown since no other Yang Family or Style uses that terminology!

Yang family teaches them , just not the specific "Hammer" name.

Some of this is in the Tai Chi Two Person Dance book by Jonathan Russell. It's based on TT Liang's work.

That Li style Tai Chi form is stellar. That's fluid strength.

Too much inconsistency in that form for me
Don't put power into the form let it naturally arise from the form

Hammer = fist, essentially, because the two characters have the same sounds. Well, it is probably easy to write one or the other by mistake.

Incidentally, I also heard about the "five fists" of Yang taiji from a Xu Yusheng line.

Is there a specific teaching methodology in function and utility in this knowledge as I remain ignorant on this!
Experientially, I have been taught these movements as part of form, structure and sometimes usage but that was the extent of my learning. As I see no specific reason for naming or designation of this Five Hammers, I imagine that those who actually use it, that there must be a separate dimension as to their MEANING and methodology! In a similar vein, liuhebafa (concept and principle) is distinct from the art so named that it has become form without function though it is excellent for gymnastic performance and congratulatory praise in execution. 8-)

There is supposed to be a group in Beijing called 5 yang fists or something like that. I talking to a few people about it. I will report back when i get some clarity. I was told about this group when I learned Taiji Da Shou. I am wondering if they are a branch from Xu Yu-sheng.
