The differences are in what the mind is doing while the body is barely moving, everyone seems to have different concepts of what should be going on, if you also workout with people and apply and art you can get feedback on whether your standing is doing any good toward internal development, I have never seen anyone who developed internal energy without doing the standing meditation., tai chi sets and forms of most styles don't seem to do much to develop the core of internal which people like Feng Zhiqiang called "Gong" or as I see it, the steel core that is wrapped by cotton. It is funny, that that core used to be the basic training, now it is the secret training, because most arts have lost it and only pass on dancing sets which don't develop the basic (core), along with countless techniques that are also almost all useless without the core development.
