Tai Chi is all about unification, not separation.

Well.. The classics says that you need to clearly distinguish yin from yang, empty from full. First you need to separate things into clear opposites, first then you know what to unify and how.

Since internal work is unification of the body (and mind) to use as little force as necessary to get the job done, then yes, many people already practice internal work - it may not be martially oriented, but it is most definitely internal.

I would say no, they don't which is why people have different ideas about it with those that
dont practice in the same way feeling they do.... ;)

It does present problems as anything "viewed" gets dismissed
while things "talked" about are readily accepted until "viewed" ;)

Its funny in a way, very predictable.

my point about the weights was that anything that would tend to draw the mind to that point, which would tend to keep one from understanding what "intention" is, how to develop it, use directly.

As dglenn, pointed out some things develop on there own with proper practices that foster it.
Understanding and using "intention" happens to be one of them...

The topic of the thread was about practices using weights while walking ect. it wouldn't be something that I would recommend doing or combining with a practice like taiji....
others might find different.

Well, I think that most on this site already know about ying/yang, and even they are not separate: "Wherever there is yang, there is yin, and wherever there is yin, there is yang. They are two sides of the same coin." The idea is to be sensitive enough to distinguish them and to be able to transform them into their opposite.

this smoothness is qi. so anyone who thinks that qi does not exist should just go watch someone who is smooth
everywhere and try to explain it any other way. The qi penetrates the movement, joins to it, reinforces it.
Sooner or later all movement seems to be hydraulically powered by the qi itself and very little of anything else remains.
Thanks.
P.S. That's my view, your entitled to yours.

The "purpose of Taiji" cannot be about acquiring something that doesn't exist. As far as a "smooth" form being a proof of qi accumulation, look at any professional dancer, they are smoother than any Taiji adept.

Serena, what kind of "damage" did you sustain while walking with weights?
