Ancient weapon against modern crime

Pretty interesting. Apparently purse snatchers on motorbikes were a big problem in Guangzhou and the local police started using a modified version of the hook spear to catch the robbers. What's neat is they got the idea because one of the cop was a fan of the classic Water Margins story and in it the weapon was used against horses.

Actually since they were a problem in Guangzhou the city has made all bikes illegal in the city quite a few years ago, so it would suffice to apply the law and block the remaining bikes. But as usual, in China, they keep patching over a patch, over another patch ... :)

Wow, that seems more extreme than the spear-hook. They should just pass a law where all pedestrians must carry a spear-hook instead and attempt to hook any criminals. That's more fun :)
