Ok perhaps i'm mistaken but off the top of my head...Compliance is basically "following some sort of rules" and non-compliant would be NOT following rules. Hence why I would think of the difference.

Sure, that's an understandable definition. By compliance I mean "doing what you're told", during training a compliant partner gives you the setup, during combat you follow the partner's initiative to replace it.

Compliance is important in the same way that large frame actions are important - for the beginner, IMO. You have to have some foundation to work with, and having a somewhat compliant partner that gives you just enough noncompliance to work a technique allows you to explore that action. Once you get the hang of things it's time to be noncompliant.
