Interesting!
I have seen limited Persian "glyphs" affiliated with Central Asian themes based on a wrestling tradition and at times a pan Buddhist drawings associated with the SIlk Road trail. The yoga descriptive seems to be stretching it but still a good exposition on the background.

It's blocked because the site installs malware.

lot of similarities with Indian wrestling(Pehlwani). Can't help thinking they both must be having the same root. God Mitra is a popular deity among Indians. Is there any core difference which sets persian yoga apart from indian wrestling?

interesting interview. thanks for sharing

@littlepanda The earliest written evidence, far as I know, of Pahlavan (Indian pronunciation Pehlwan) occurring in the Persian language is 248 BCE in reference to the Persian mounted cataphract knights. These knights were used even earlier than that but under different names.

The Indian Pehlwani is indicated to have been developed in the Mughal Empire 1526 CE.

The worship of Mithra, an ancient Aryan God and Diety favored by the warrior tribes dates back to before the time of the Aryan migration 2400 BCE when Indo-Iranian tribes were one.

Today there are many significant differences between how Pahlavani (AKA Persian Yoga) and Pehlwani in India. Including the wrestling arts, i.e. the Iranian Koshti and the Indian Kushti.

But I dare say that the essence of what being a Pahlavan/Pehlwan is truly about (the idea of the strong, righteous, humble warrior) is still intact in both traditions/cultures. Perhaps an attestation to the strong Mithraic/Aryan past.

Be tireless

For some reason Kaspersky decided a scan was necessary after visiting.
