Lü with 扌radical could be something made up and used by Taiji people exclusively. Whereas with 掤 that word existed already (but sound different), and Taiji people hijacked it for its 朋 sound and 扌radical :)

True that!
As a sinologist, I have come to a lot of digitally unknown characters, be it "borrowed" or "invented", in the fields of philosophy, trad. Chin. medicine, and MA. In the days of MS Dos (does anyone remember), we did generate our own characters on a matrix, with pixels and mouse klicks, lol. But then the change of software speeded up dramatically, and my 70-something chache of generated characters did get lost.
