Groin Protective Stances

Postby Yeung on Sun Nov 26, 2017 11:01 am

I am working on a list of groin protective stances, and some of them are as follows:

Character Ba Stance 八字步
Character Er Stance 二字马
Character Chuan Stance 川字步 (Parallel stance)
Character Ding Stance 丁字步 (Perpendicular stance)
Not Ding Not Ba Stance 不丁不八步

Any addition to the list is welcome.

The term 步 (bu) means stepping but some times it is the short form for 马步 (ma bu) which means stance.

Don't know what to call it, but Cheng Man Ching just turned in his front toe in bow stance.

To protect your groin, nothing can be better than "钝链割谷 (Dun Lian Ge Gu) - Dull sickle cut rice".

Image

When you bite your shin bone on the side of your opponent's leading leg, none of his leg can kick your groin.

That's close to what I meant to describe

Now I'm not sure but I think there are no combat sports(out in the open) that allows groin attacks? But let's say it vas an legit area to attack in for example kickboxing would we see more kick boxers in groin protective stances? Any of you guys who have been in "real" fights feel that you have been protected by a groin protective stance? Looking at pic's of such stances and myself have been practicing(long time ago) such stances feels it opens up for other attacks on ones lower body.

If you protect your groin, you will expose your heel.

If you expose your heel to your opponent (such as the WC inward horse stance), your opponent can sweep your ankle without extra back foot re-position. This is why to establish a "leg bridge" is important. If you can contact your leading leg on your opponent's leading leg (establish a leg bridge), you will be safe from his kick.

Xu Bu generally has the knee turned in to protect the groin in most styles.

I think that I have mentioned this before... But because of the subject it might be interesting...
My friend, a Hung Gar lineage holder, taught me a method from his style. It’s a variation of the stance with knees pointing inwards like you see in Wing Chun. In northern styles it’s sometimes called “women’s stance”. But it’s a bit broader than these pictures and it’s used with the side partly turned towards the opponent. He said that this was used in battles and that they just called it something like balls protecting stance. But the point is not to have a special angle that would make it harder for the opponent. Why they called it so is because from this postume, they can use the muscles in the thighs and lower stomach to pull up the testicles. (Yup, he taught me this method.) It gives a little bit connotation to the name “women’s stance” when you show your have no balls, don’t you think? ;D

The hop gar basic stance protects the groin and is tested.
As a young teenager I was told the stance would protect my groin
I said" ok",,,the teacher "no really it will", and kicked me...

needless to say it didn't :o , the instructor laughed and said "nope your stance was not correct."

One only has to experience that once :P to know and understand how to arrange the stance
so it actually protects the groin. .

It does not protect the groin while the lead foot is on the ground
The use differs from that

Amazing how much emphasis people put on groin protection and at the same time not too bothered with covering the head:)
the bihhest problem with those paralell stances is it takes one push to completelly unbalance the person - protecting the groin is secondary issue

Chicken wing kick will find the target if the front foot(of the opponent) is weighted.
