Old Chefs term, garbage in , garbage out. If you make soup with bad ingredients it will taste like that, If you do one million fists and not one is a qualified fist they are all wasted training.

Don't put power into the form let it naturally arise from the form

After I have done 5 days of 1000 non-stop XingYi Pi Chuan, today I started to drill 1000 non-stop XingYi Pao Chuan. Instead of using it for warm-up, today I drill it after my 2 hours regular training. This way I can be more relax when I do it since it will be the last part of the training that I'll do today. The 1000 Pao took me 58 minutes.

I divide the single drill into 3 steps. Starting from the block and punch.

1. Extension - Pivot the front foot, extend the punching arm, put block arm fist next to my waist.
2. Compress - Move back foot next to leading foot, wrap and pull the punching arm back to the waist.
3. Release - Step forward, punch one arm, block another arm, back foot slide in.

This is a good drill to train

- power generation.
- ever punch should followed by a pull.
- All body parts move/stop at the same time.
- Hand coordinate with foot, elbow coordinate with knee, shoulder coordinate with hip.

more practice means more frequent opportunities and speedier rate at which errors are discovered
cos very simple: at the amount of reps we are talking about, any error or misalignment will caused
a very clear pain feedback.

If you walk 8 miles, in the 1st 4 miles, your body can detect your problem. In the 2nd 4 miles, your body start to fix your problem.

On one forum, I made a comment about doing punching and kicking whilel saying a punch is not a punch and a kick is not a kick and I was bemused by their amusement of my statement!
Within the punch is a grab (apparent), a block. trapping, etc and a kick can be a sidestep (while raising leg) or even a 'trap'/trip so it is what and how you train is a central principle.

Internal CMA training of today within the general CMA population is unique/strange ??? and at odds with martial reality! How can one gain skill without training the skill?

Just a rhetorical question to all who train martial CMA skill!

one time, there was this young guy who came to me when i was drinking my single malts
he came over and said you sure you can taste all that different flavours you said?
i gave him a smile that said aww man you got my pretentious ass good
heh i dunno which school he went to but even kids know that 80-90% of taste comes from the nose

i dun generally think that confucius teachings can take you to a very high level
but man, just what he said about women and fools

This discussion reminds me of the debate that Xingyi guys often have about Zhanzhuang (standing meditation/pole standing). While there are some schools that believe one can not acquire any serious skill or neigong without holding Santi "for hours" a day, others claim that 15 to 20 minutes is already enough. There are also those who contend that practicing the 5-fists repetitively -- as suggested by some posters in this discussion -- rather than standing still is actually more beneficial.

If you move a

- tree, that tree will die.
- person, that person will live long.

IMO, the human body is good to move around than to be still. When you lay down in your coffin, you will be static for a long time. The time that you can move your body can only be about 100 years. When you are still alive, you should move, walk, run, dance, jump, flip in the air, and enjoy your life. When you die, you can have your coffin to be standing straight, so your dead body can be in a tree hug posture for another 1,000 years.

When you use

- compress to inhale, and
- release to exhale,

your body movement and breathing will be coordinated. You will then understand how to

- use your body to breath, and
- generate power.

I hope I can still be able to move like this when I'm 90 years old.

martial artists say when trained hands touch, one shall know there is or not
what is there refers to some"thing"
so the next question is what is the/this "thing"?

i personally have felt it and know by feeling what that "thing" is
so all martial training is to build/make this "thing"

some do wuxing, it is enough for them
some tell their students to do zz, as this is they feel it is the easiest way to achieve the "thing"
correct me if i am wrong, as i understand it Li Cunyi just do wuxing mostly
his student Shang, teach his pupil to do zz
but any discussion on this difference is really unimportant cos they already know the "thing"

The long fist running punch (from Pao Chuan #3) is one of my daily training routine. I have tried to use it to replace my 3 miles running. I may not be able to do it for 3 miles but I know I can do it for 1000 times. The long fist "running punch" uses exactly the same footwork as in that clip. The only difference is it has 2 punches instead of just 1 punch.

I start to think whether I should replace my 1000 punching drill by

- 10 different drills 100 times each, or
- 20 different drills 50 times each, or
- ...

I wonder which will give me the most benefit. Any suggestion?

Until you are doing Xing I fists you will not have it a thousand times. And you will never know if your execution is correct.
