Hey man in these days of multi-page empty force threads we need to encourage any and all posts of actual training.

wushutiger, try and be more open to the phallic symbolism of the weapon
not everyone one is equally endowed

Me too! But in case we do not get an answer from anyone who actually knows, I will offer my conjecture.

It is a maneuver to recover your spear if it gets stuck. Ribs and so forth. Upward leverage, rearward traction. Physics of the carrying pole.

I also have a humorous explanation, but these days everyone is so artificially sensitive to being triggered by imaginary offenses against cultural sensitivity, pretending outrage, that I hesitate to mention it.

I thought it was a maneuver to stab the spear out even further than usual (more range) - but since that ends up in a weak position (only one hand), to "save" into a defensive position, moving back.

I would love to hear your humorous explanation, klonk!

(At least I am not tethered to one of the arbitrarily set political parties' platforms, so no worries here!)

heh it's all plausible, till Bob tells us what it is
i just cannot understand the walk backwards with spear over the shoulder
...yeah and that empty arm move, that looks like a block :)

In this video below the stances I am used to for these exercises, for training, are much lower and driven by the dan tian.
