Not in Taiji AFAIK, but learned the basic cover as described by Kurt in boxing, and in a more focused variant, in Crazy Monkey. Rodney King's stuff is up on the web, and is pretty commonsense as a defense against head attacks.
The point of Crazy Monkey is that is is a GUARD, not a TECHNIQUE.
In silat, I learned this as a counterattack (with either elbow or kerambit) but your timing has to be superb to pull it off successfully. If, OTOH, you have it there as a guard, then...
