Kicking Combo

Let's share some kicking combos here. This is the kicking combo that I like to drill daily. I can train 4 different kicks at the same time.

- skip in right front kick (or hook kick), left round house kick, left skip in side kick, right spin back kick, and repeat the other side.

What's your favor kicking combos in your daily training?

Lead pushkick followed by strong roundhouse

inside leg kick followed by high head kick

lead roundhouse followed by spinning heel kick

then there are variants such as lead pushkick followed by double strong round house kick to the body

I found inside crescent kick is easier to change into spinning heel kick since the knee is pointing upward instead of pointing sideway. That was what Bruce Lee did in his movie - right hook kick, left inside crescent kick, right spinning back kick.

I don't do much kicking combo's these days. But my favorite is not so much a combination as a feint. You do front kick to the groin at maybe 70% of top speed and then when you see your opponent react you twist into roundhouse to the head at full speed. It works like a dream on people that have n't seen it before.

Nowadays I think only about kicks at knee level or below. So I was wondering which you think is better: to kick to the knee or ankle or maybe even shin. Personally I favor just a straight kick to the knee - it's simple and quick. Just on a side note if you are lying on the deck and you can hook one foot around your opponent's foot and then side kick up to the knee above is good (depending on how you look at it) as well.

right shovel - step to a left side kick, turn to a right tail kick.

it's a good straight in series. you can adjust for target mobility with each one the riskiest launch being the tail kick. But it also has the most power.
Coconuts. Bananas. Mangos. Rice. Beans. Water. It's good.

Right side kick to the knee, slide down the shin to crush the instep. I guess thats not really a combination kick though :D

Being a Mantis Boxer:

1. Bridge with Leap Step Toe Kick
2. Persue with Cross Kick, Steal Step, 7 Star Kick (while engaging the hands)
3. Disengage with Closing Door Kick

no kick combos here. I mostly use the roundhouse kick and I set it up with punches.

Sifu Wang,

Have you ever checked out Capoeira for ideas in kicking combos?

The only time that I have seen that style was in the park below the Eiffel tower.

We use a different power generation than the asians, and we don't train specific combos so much as how to break techniques into pieces and string the pieces together. A spin kick, for instance, is maybe four segments. You can't do the segments in isolation, but different exercises are done every day so that you become aware of all of the points where the technique can break and transform into something else. Those tend to be strung together combinations of various sorts. the key to building combination in that case is that your tempo is dictated externally, and you cannot do nothing at any point. Become accustomed to continual motion being mandatory, and combinations will start to reveal themselves much more cleanly.
