Bagua Daoyin new book by He Jinghan

Postby eddie mush on Sun Jun 08, 2008 9:07 am

Just got this in a mail about Mr. He Jinghan's new book:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/1848 ... pe_snp_093
synopsis:
Bagua Daoyin emphasizes the perception and training of muscles (jin), bones (gu) and skin (pi), and combines elements of fitness, martial arts and medical science in order to promote harmony and balance in the body and mind. Master He, a fifth generation practitioner of the BaguaQuan line, sets out a programme of study underpinned by theory. He explains the development of Bagua Daoyin from a refinement of Daoist studies into a method of training the body and mind in which every external movement is echoed in the inner tissue of the body. Bagua Daoyin opens up the joints of the body and relaxes the muscles, encouraging an awareness of the body and posture at all times. With simple body movements, one can channel the hidden flow of Qi, or energy, and blood, giving a new lease of life to zones of the body that have lost their vitality and promoting a sense of tranquillity. This fully illustrated guide to Bagua Daoyin will be essential reading for Bagua and Tai Chi practitioners at all levels, students of martial arts and anyone interested in Chinese culture.

This one and a new book by Alex Kozma on Ziranmen... sweet! :D

In case you are unfamiliar with Eddie Mush, he was the character in the movie "A Bronx Tale" who was a total jinx. He had a perfect track record of losing every bet he ever placed as well as jinxing everyone around him.

Thanks,

its a few forms, and excersises with alot (mostly) very good photography. i would say roughly 75% of the book is Photography. 25% explanations.

There are some brilliant images in there, some of my favorite images of Martial Arts that i have seen. Like Hejinghan Leaping to about shoulder height .... Im many ways alot of the postures remind me of old boxing manuals.

There are also some very clear pictures of Hejinghans body in alot of postures..... Anyone who thinks his system is all about sticking his bum out really needs to buy this book and take a look at how straight as a board the guys spine is in most postures. It is also very clear to see how much Hejinghan can 'twist' ... as can be seen in the cover image. Some of the pictures just look plain abnormal!

Cheers
Chris

Some where on his blog

http://tw.myblog.yahoo.com/hejinghan-bagua/

are a series of very nice photos of him with a sword, jumping in the air. Can't find them now, and don't read Chinese!

This book is a try that I want to use " image " to tell some principles of BGQ since language is so limited, it is a coincidence that Mr. David Alexander translated it and Jessica Kingsley Publishers put efforts to publish it, everything goes so " natural ", I believe it is the time for this book to meet western readers, hope people will like it and any kinds of comments are welcome.

Hi Hejinghan,

I want to use " image " to tell some principles of BGQ since language is so limited

Even in Chinese Language (which i cant read) the message gets across through the images ... so i think that goal was achieved!!

Respects

I just pre-ordered the book from amazon. It is not yet available in the U.S..

Is there a dvd available?

Looks, by all accounts, a very interesting book.

thanks for your encourgements, there is no DVD yet, I'm thinking of making systematic free teaching clips on youtube or some long term free web site, need to break through how to teach only with images without language in a short clip.
