Big Day for I-Liq Chuan!

Postby ashe on Mon Aug 31, 2009 5:16 pm

The GM of ILC recently celebrated his 80th birthday, and as always, I-Liq Chuan students from around the world joined my Sifu in Malaysia during August.

At the big celebration, my Sifu was officially named by his father as the inheritor of the system of I-Liq Chuan!

here are a few photos from the gathering; http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/sredir?uname=iliqchuan.austria&target=ALBUM&id=5376024288159634705&authkey=Gv1sRgCNyH0sHS-JulVg&feat=email

no, not by a long shot. just the most active on teh interwebz, and the only one in the US currently pursuing martial arts as a career... :D

things are a little muddy in terms of rank and seniority at times. for instance, i'm ranked instructor level 2, which AFAIK, i might be the only one besides Dave Pandulo, Don Massi and ALex Salaskoob who's ranked higher than IL1. when i get my student level 6, i think i'll be the only one in the US though there are several ranked at student level 7, and several more who are qualified for that rank though i don't believe they ever tested.

then there are the disciples, which is separate than rank, in the US i'm actually almost dead last in terms of seniority (in terms of date of bai shi). http://i-liqchuan.com/content/disciples-and-lineage

in the US, there's don massi who's something like student level 8 and instructor level 3 or 4, dave pandullo, who for all intents and purposes is the senior student in the US since he's completed the entire curriculum and is the most senior student after don, and then rich vespa who is (unless he's tested) student level 7.

as far as who might be in line as the next inheritor is anybody's guess. currently i would say alex is most qualified both as a teacher and personal skill level, and although he's said he will hand it over to who ever is most qualified, i think my Sifu would like to see one of his kids take it over. his oldest daughter yen is becoming more active and you never know what his youngest son will do...
