do you have any?
how do you train them?
do you follow any principles for finishing moves?
do you maintain contact or do you bounce them away?

buff, then polish.

In that order!

use an orbital sander and conservators wax for best results

Presentation and dressings are really important.

Its worth polishing the plates with vinegar too.

Sometimes I speed up to get that lighter, finer friction. Then I'll add in some palming of the top knob, and maybe reach down and give the plums a tug to see if they're appropriately tight. That usually finishes it, but only when working on Victorian stair bannisters.
