Went to visit my old Capoeira school/Mestre yesterday

Postby JuanM on Tue Jun 17, 2008 2:15 pm

So I decided to go visit Mestre Amen last night and take a Capoeira class. It was great seeing Mestre again. On the real, he is the best MA instructor and best all around guy I have ever met. When he saw me he went right up to me and gave me a big hug and said it was great to see me again. That is the kind of love that is shown at his studio. It was also great seeing some old friends whom I hadn't seen in years. Again, they were just as warm as Mestre in that they came right over to me and gave me hugs and greetings. Capoeira Batuque, if nothing else, has the best vibe I have ever felt in a martial arts studio.

The class wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. I thought I was going to be very rusty, which I was, but not to the degree that I thought I would be, but I was generally able to keep up with all the drills we were doing. I played three times in the roda one of them being with a mestre who was there for the upcoming batizado. Overall I thought I did pretty well, considering the fact that I had not played Capoeira in years. In fact, when stading I felt that I could see my partner's actions alot better. I give this credit to all the sparring at MT, however on the ground I got tied up in knots from all the circular motions. Overall, it was a great experience. I'm hoping to go a little more often now, maybe once a month. Depending on what the wife allows.

You are a lucky man. Glad to hear you didn't have too much rust to shake off.

also, when you get together you make music, sing, and play in an interactive way which is different every time, with different people, men and women, strangers and old friends.

Hmm, blending is important. Must make sure to find some charming angoleiras to, er, blend with ;)
