You guys are silly. The Ven Fish is one of the most erudite persons in this ICMA game, and even if you didn't know that approaching everyone like they are a shyster until proven otherwise is pretty fucking rude.

I miss when manners were in vogue.

Oh for God's sake! Ten lousy bucks! Your government gave AIG 183 BILLION!

Man up and cough up. If you don't like it, ask for half a kabob back.

good luck with the site.....$10/year is nothing, and why shouldn't they get paid? Chinese gung fu is incredibly valuable information for living, why do people have a problem with people making money from sharing that information?

jeez.

cue enrico morricone soundtrack, and open on clint eastwood backlit not blinking for a long time.

dr. fish is offering to share his formidable expertise with people who're willing to help underwrite his server costs, and people are wondering if it's an apache ambush. a ten frigging bucks a year apache ambush.

jeez.

i have seen some shameless IMA profiteering over the years. but none to compare to this. eighty-three-point-three-something cents a month!

jeez.

it's elitist thinking like this that will spell the doom of traditional CIMA in this new century, dr. fish.

***

heh.

you guys who don't trust dr. fish--go dig up a handful of his old posts on the board, and read them.

:)

good luck with this endeavor, dr. fish!

i'm posting my opinion on my blog. Please click through to see what I think of Ven Fish charging 10$ for the lifetime of information he has collected and is willing to share.

I'll sign up for it. I've was around long enough on the old EF to get an idea of what a knowledgeable gentleman Mr Fish is.

I would think he would address this as I'm sure most people who surfed to a pay site, with no knowledge of the author, would want an indication of the content before they signed up. So I'm sure attracting new subscribers from the 'portal' will have been thought through.

Once again, thank you to everyone - I am working to get the site up as soon as possible. I appreciate all of the support you have shown. As I mentioned to another member, I posted to give a heads up - I didn't imagine it would turn into a lengthy discussion thread! As to why a charge for the site - for those who haven't done it, there are significant costs involved in setting up, hosting, and maintaining a site - and the young gent I have doing some of the work for me expects to be paid as well. As for content - the site will cover some history and anecdotes, as well as the personal experiences of the contributors, but will mostly be a "how to" and "what is" site, along with a fair amount of films and photos to illustrate the points. It will focus almost exclusively on Xingyi and Tongbei - both broad topics in their own right, to be covered in depth from and for people training in them.

Hi Ken:

Your new website sounds like a great idea, and well worth supporting, IMO. :)

You undoubtedly know already that those who balk at paying $10 per year are the same people who would find fault with the site's content and be totally unappreciative of your willingness to share same even if it was a free site. ::)

So, why bother with any concern for their ignorant opinions in any event? -shrug-
