Washington DC - Chinatown - Wah Shing Kung-Fu?

Postby oleo on Sat Feb 14, 2009 3:26 pm

Hi,

I happened to stumble upon this place today.

It's a trinket, bookstore, tea and martial arts equipment store and above the shop they is "Wah Shing Kung-Fu"

The woman behind the counter said they teacher Kung-fu - Taji, Bagua & Xing Yi.

What's the deal with this place? Is it legit? Know anything about it?

Or is George in Northern Virginia a better option?

Thanks.

I went in there and browsed their kung fu books once when I was visiting the area, I don't know anything about the classes though. I'll be interested in hearing what people have to say.

I tried to contact these folks and see a class, which I was not welcomed to do so I skipped it. I've heard it costs a chunk to go there but don't remember exactly how much. George has been my teacher for 5 years, I value what I've learned under him more than all the other ma stuff I've done combined. Without seeing the class or knowing any students I can't compare obviously, but George is a very effective teacher compared to most. Virtually all of the students that have put in some time here have made notable progress, and some of them have been around doing ma for a very long time before coming to our school. You can PM me if there's anything you'd like to ask me about the classes.

I searched online a little bit and found this:

C.C. Liu

Hi oleo,

If you are interested in Xingyi and Bagua, you can experience my class in Fairfax VA and see how you like it.
I teach Li Tai Liang's internal systems.

There just happends to be alot of schools that will say they teach taiji, bagua or xingyi, even though that is not their specialty like karate, shaolin, hung gar, taekwondo schools fo'sho' have tried getting away wit' dat. buyer beware

I spoke to the older Chinese gentleman in Wa-Shing and he said he is not accepting beginners. It makes me sad because I have been buying my herbals next door for 20 years and I have been training Capoeira Angola for 6 years, just finally discovered PaGua and Im facinated by it.

Nothing Against Wa-shing but they directed me to the Chinese Cultural Center. I will check them out Wed they have a workshop or something scheduled for this week.

Liu Chaochi is actually quite good at Xiong Yanghe's version of Taiji (he was a student of Xiong). If I were to recommend him to others for anything, that would be it.
