Any interesting folk in Singapore?

Postby Walk the Torque on Sat Oct 24, 2009 10:27 pm

I'm off to Singapore for two weeks. Does anyone have contacts there who would be up for fooling around. Or maybe some ridiculously skilled Bagua master prehaps. There must at least be some tai ji there. All recomendations appreciated.

my yoga teacher's daughter lives and teaches there you can find her details at www.svastha.com

although I seriously doubt that she would be up for fooling around.

If you free on a sunday you could go watch a demo from these folk:

http://www.namwahpai.com/

Seeing as you are a foreigner, you will probably get called up to beat some old iron shirt dude, could be fun. If you can manage to convince them to demo some fa jing on you, that could also be interesting, but may be difficult. Either way, something to do if your free.

From the site:
Demos are usually held on Sundays @ 2.00 pm
9, 5th Floor, Lorong 29, Geylang (near Aljunied MRT)
Please call to inquire or reconfirm

Might also find something interesting on here:

Its a Singaporean MA/IMA forum.

Let us know if you see something interesting. Bon Voyage!

Bagua in Singapore:

Ge Chunyan (Cheng village baguazhang from Sun Zhijun, also teaches wushu, etc.)
Wang Hanzhi (Imperial baguaquan from Gong Baotian -> Wang Zhuangfei (Wang Hanzhi is his son))
Wang Shangxin (Yin style baguazhang from Yin Yuzhang -> Wang Fu)
Zhou Yuewen (Wuji Baguazhang - a rarely-seen form of baguazhang from Shanghai, coming from Yin Fu -> Cui Zhendong -> Ji Jinshan; also teaches many other things)

As for taiji, there are many, including:

Zhu Tiancai (Chen village)
Xu Jinge (Yang style from Dong Yingjie -> Lin Boyan, Chen style via Zhu Tiancai, Praying Mantis via Luo Guangyu -> Lin Boyan)

Not all of the above teach publically... ;)

As for Geylang - don't play too much over there! :P (Feel free to eat the durians and mangosteens, though.)

Agree, Durian gives off really strong smell. The smell stays with you for a long time.
There was this restaurant Strange took me last time, the food was great.
I am a vege for a while, but all the months of hard work melted by the chilly wanton Strange ordered. It goes really well with beer too.

*leans forward listening*
Coconuts. Bananas. Mangos. Rice. Beans. Water. It's good.

I dont know how this dish got passed down to Singapore, because a lot of my chinese friends dont know what it is.....
In Taiwan, this dish was passed down from some of the oldies mililtary personal when retreat to Taiwan....they preserved the flavor and cookery.

I love the Shanghai one better, the other one is probably too strong for me...
but both of them are GREAT! MUST EAT!

If you can cook the dumpling soup, then it is easier to prepare.
So you cook some dumpling (made from square flour wrapping, filling: minced pork, bit of ginger, spring onion, marinted with little bit of Japanese soya sauce, bit of whiskey, add minced prawn and bit of MSG or some salt and tiny bits of sugar), boil it till once it float above water level. Place in loads of chilli sauce/ water mixture. Sprinkle some fresh spring onion, and lemon grass or basil. wow la....there you go. This is my own recipes.

Have some coconut juice ready, its flavor sooth the burning from the chilli. Make it room temperature, and drink it in small sip. NICE.......

When it comes to eating, i am just padantic.
