I for one would not cross the road to see Tadzio and his teacher now. Tien Xing Yi is forever tainted by this ... the teacher was so worried about how his art looked after that TV show?? But throw fighting skills to one side and look at this situation ... maybe an article on 'how to screw over honest decent people' would be more of a specialist subject!

On the old Empty Flower, I used to stand up for Tadzio when he was getting shredded for his dramatic secrecy. I used to say that if someone's willing to leave a place as nice as Brazil to live in......... ummmm .............. China for as long as he has, he must be serious and worthy of respect.

Those were the good old days.


I have actually been in Tadzio's shoes. I once canceled an intensive I was teaching in a foreign country three days before it was due to begin. Here's where Tadzio and I differed in our handling of it:

1. I apologized profusely to my host and explained in detail why the cancelation had to occur (and it was valid);
2. I told the host to try to recover whatever outlays she made and that I would cover every part of the shortfall;
3. I did as I said I would in #2;
4. I asked the host to refund everyone's money in full as quickly as possible and include an apology that I had written;
5. I asked the host to tell the registered participants that when I rescheduled the intensive, they would receive a 1/3 discount;
6. I did as I said I would in #5.
7. When the re-scheduled intensive took place, I listened to the few remaining complaints and tried to make them as right as I could.

On top of that, some of the participants took a financial beating due to my cancellation. I was able to take care of much of this. When I eventually taught the intensive, I didn't make a dime and wound up losing quite a bit from not working at my home base. Consequently, what could have been an explosive situation, turned into a minor piss-off and, eventually, everyone was happy.

Tadzio (and his so-called "Master") can never again abuse us with their arrogant superiority. They are devoid of character. If Tadzio had a brain in his head (and I really am questioning that now), he'd look for someone else to teach him.

Btw, what Pandrews1982 did was straight up. Also, I admire Iason's restraint in dealing with a situation that was stressful from both sides. I'm sure he had to take some major shit. After all, he had no idea that he was hosting some major shit.

It was very decent of Pandrews1982 to step in and rescue what could have been a very unhappy situation. As it was it turned out to be very interesting, he's clearly very good and his guys are top blokes too. I could only get there for one of the evenings but I've asked Iason to send some of whatever refund I'm due his way because I think he deserves it. And if there's going to be further workshops along those lines then I'll definitely head along to say hello and do some training.

Not sure I'd be quite so quick to condemn outright due to one cancelled seminar - everyone makes mistakes, no one's perfect etc.

But like the rest i do find it incredibly disappointing, after all these years of dismissive and arrogant posts, constant talk of how all they do is fight - no fight footage, only a bit of form in someone's dining room.

Then this first opportunity for the international community is handled so poorly - arranging visas days before travel is so ridiculous it's almost an absurd excuse to use.

Very disappointing, but i'd still want to see their XY!

But if you were slated to attend this seminar i can absolutely understand you making it.

And if you were the organiser of it i can understand it even more (clearly everyone feels for Iason, who has been put out by this whole thing)

Props to Pandrews for stepping in though - that's what it's all about!!

Pandrews made the best of a bad situation. We could as a group continue to do the same. Keep looking up together; including Tadzio. I'm by no means advocating blind forgiveness, or that the episode should be forgotten, but as long as we're sentient we each have the opportunity to prove ourselves better than we were yesterday.

No i dont think it is. Seminars get cancelled, people drop out and even teachers dont make it. Thats par for the course.

What isn't on is how this appears to have been handled.

Just an alert for people in Canada and specifically the Toronto area who are interested in xingyiquan: Tadzio Goldgewicht, whose actions in cancelling the April 2012 seminar that is the subject of this thread were highly questionable to say the least, is claiming to teach his brand of xingyi there now: http://tadziogold.com/630/tian-xingyiquan-in-canada.

Just to summarise for anyone who has arrived here from Google:

Tadzio and his master abruptly cancelled a planned seminar in London, leaving the organiser to reimburse all participants for the cost of the plane tickets that he had purchased for them - having spoken to the organiser this was a huge expense for him which it took a long time to pay off - and all participants without the promised seminar, having booked their flights and hotel rooms and having already arrived in London for the promised seminar.

No effort was made by Li Jinsheng or Tadzio Goldgewicht to remedy the situation or even bother to apologise.

Bear this in mind if you are considering training with either of these individuals.

Note that the superb Yang Hai is over in Montreal (I think that's "in the area" - relatively speaking for Canada )
