Summer in China

Postby Bao on Tue Jun 23, 2015 4:03 am

Hi folks,

I am going to stay in Kunming over the summer. I am not planning any trips to other places, but I am sure someone in China can convince me to visit some other place. ;D If you live in China, plan a trip or so, you are also welcome to visit me. Just look up my E-mail in my profile or just send me a PM. :)

Well there's a few of us in Shanghai.... so if happen to pass by here let me know (although I will be out of China in July).

Are you training in Kunming... or just travelling/visiting people?

Hi! In China now. No, not for training, just visiting family. But I have a whole lot of work to do, so I'm not here for vacation. I will will try keep up practice, and I am staying for two whole month here, so I might try to find someone. We'll see when and if I get time to travel. I'll keep in touch with those who contact me. :)

At 翠湖公园 I met a lot of people practicing various arts when I was there during the Chinese New Year holidays this year. There is a guy who practices "northern shaolin fist" and demonstrated rope dart for me. He also practiced line drills that looked a lot like Xingyi (with a cigarette in his conch shell fist). There are also some Yang Taiji practitioners, who seemed to be skilled - at least in forms. They were a little bit more hidden between the plane trees.
While in Yunnan you should also visit 石林 and 九乡溶洞

Thanks for the tips Cdobe :)

On earlier travels I have seen very interesting exercises in some parks. I bet that there are many things left to be discovered...

The Stone Forrest ... A great place to visit as a tourist, for sure. But I don't think I will go there again in a few years.

Obviously it sounds like you're going to be pretty busy, but if you're going to be in Kunming for two whole months then if I were you there would be two groups of people I would try to look up:

(1) Sha Guozheng's disciples such as Chen Lihua, Zhang Jing and Liu Bo

(2) Zhang style taiji people - coming from Zhang Hongsheng who studied with Yang Banhou and Li Ruidong. Most of the teachers in Kunming come from a teacher called Xu Shuizhang, think Yang Wendong and Tan Hui are quite well known teachers of this branch.
