I thought the motorcycle guy handled this well. Just the sort of work we will be covering in this workshop

That guy is such a tool. I had a similar verbal 'attack' from a mental cyclist who was in his 60s... it didn't get physical at all, but I was looking at him thinking, "you want to fight me? you're like 100 years old, what do you think is going to happen?!?!?" ;D

It seems to be growing. All the guys have had some kind of road rage incident over the past six months. As it's such a common experience though it would be useful to address it directly. What I liked about the guy in that clip was his self control - he took the guy down and controlled him and tried to calm him down.

Yep - it's basic BJJ. Clinch to avoid strikes, take down, control. Wouldn't be surprised at all if he did BJJ.

Thomas Brock, 30, and the other driver got into a fistfight. The suspect left but came back a few minutes later with a friend and a gun, police said.

"And that dude with the rifle kicked that door in. And Tommy was right there. And bam, bam, two shots," said Michael Mullins, a neighbor.

Brock stumbled out the door and died in his driveway.

but would it stop this.
sport mentality feeling it ends at the take down or knock out.

@ RobP2,

you teach a lot of deescalation tech "mind set, emotional control" ect, good stuff to know.
here in the US its not always a good idea to engage with someone if it can be helped.
your seminar program looks good, should be very informative for those attending.

Only you could somehow relate that tragedy to "sport mindset". Maybe he could have made him chi-hop and that would have sorted the whole thing out. :-[

Verbal de-escalation is a hugely useful skill.

Absolutely. It's all well to talk about "destroying your opponent", going "feral", unleashing the tigah! and all the rest as primary response systems ....but we have to operate in the real world...

The OODA loop is as basic or as complex as you make it but it has to work based on what you do. As a generalized concept, you Observe, Orient Decide Act based on the knowledge and information you have along with said levels of discernment on your part. The road rage incident is a perfect example when the fellow with the cam did all he could to dissuade the punk who ran up on him just to attempt to hit him. Self defense does not mean that the old geezer ran up then the guy with the cam pulled out a gun, shot him and yelled that he was in fear of his life.
When fascism comes to US America, It will be wrapped in the US flag and waving a cross. An astute patriot
