Crab Guard
Saturday August 9th, 12:30-2:30 pm

Tim has worked on and developed what he terms the “Crab” guard, an active guard position that is transitional in nature between open guard, butterfly guard, and closed guard! Incorporating the Crab guard into your practice will allow you to work the sweeps of open & butterfly guard, while simultaneously working the submissions of closed guard all from one position. Those who practice MMA will also find this to be a safer, more effective way to launch offense and defense than the standard closed guard.
• Improve your gi game with a refreshing change in strategy
• Train and roll with one of BJJ’s most underrated teachers
• Gain a better understanding of how the body moves and its usage in combat sports and for self defense

Sun Bagua Intensive: Dragon & Bear
Saturday August 9th, 4-7pm
Tim will continue teaching the eight animals of Sun Bagua, with the Dragon and the Bear forms along with various applications of all the movements.
A comprehensive overview of locks, strikes, throws, and footwork from the next two animals will be covered. This seminar will be a continuance of previous workshops on Sun Bagua for those of you who have been training with us before, but previous attendance is NOT required, as this workshop is open to all styles, ranks, and levels!

Effortless Combat Throws:
Pt. 1 - Entering strategy and setup
Session 1 - With Gi: Sunday August 10th, 10am – 12:30pm
Session 2 - No Gi: Sunday August 10th, 2pm – 4:30pm
Learn from the man who wrote the book, literally! Tim Cartmell, author of “Effortless Combat Throws” will teach a hands on series of workshops here in Seattle, one focusing on sport grappling / fighting with a Gi, the other geared towards self defense, street fighting with NO Gi. This will not be a technique heavy seminar, but rather be more focused on the most difficult aspect of throwing…. The set up! Every style has its own terms; Kazushi / Uprooting / Unbalancing etc. but the one universal aspect of combative throwing is the ability to compromise your opponents position while maintaining yours, and effectively throwing, or taking him down! These seminars will cover different strategies for such scenarios.
• Learn the importance of the fulcrum, and how to use it to your advantage
• Using dead angles and positions to exploit weakness’ in your opponents game
• Attaining superior position and maintaining it by joining centers
• Clinch grappling strategy

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:
Tim Cartmell has become one of the most sought after martial arts teachers in North America. Combining over 30 years of experience from the arts of San Soo, Xing Yi, Bagua, Taiji, and now Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Tim has bridged the gap between theory and usage! After spending over 10 years in Asia studying various systems of martial arts and fighting full contact Lei Tai matches, Tim returned to LA to teach as well as begin his foray into the ground fighting game under Cleber Luciano. As well as earning his black belt in less than 10 years, Tim has won numerous grappling tournaments including the Copa (seven times), as well as taking silver in the 2005 Mundials (World Championships) in Brazil.
Tim is also a very accomplished translator and author with his latest translation “Chin Na Fa” on bookshelves now; he has also translated “Practical Chin Na” by Zhao Da Yuan & “Method of Chinese Wrestling” by Tong Zhong Yi. Tim has authored the pivotal book “Effortless Combat Throws” / “Passing the Guard” w/ Ed Beneville, and “Xing Yi Nei Gong” w/Dan Miller. His latest projects include a series of DVD’s on Stand up Grappling and Ground Proofing.
Tim teaches fulltime in Garden Grove, CA. where he has combined the stand up fighting of Xing Yi, Bagua, and Taiji with the ground work of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to create his Shen Wu curriculum of modern day combative’s.

Jake, you need to not schedule good seminars around when Luo's coming out here. I always want to go, but my august seminar money is always taken.

S- needs to inherit some money.
