Isolation/coordination just the yin/yang of training

A good teacher uses both at the right time to get the student to a point of skill

By the way ,this guy has got it

3 ways I teach tien kan

Waist only locked hips
Powering from the ground up no weight shift
Full body ,shift,hips,waist

Don't put power into the form let it naturally arise from the form

+1

What to train is based on where we are at. Always back and forth between isolation and coordination. Of course, something else too.

I never learned 'proper' xingyi but most of the principles were from baquazhang, where you did static exercises first then progressed to moving single line practice, left then back etc. so it makes sense to do jibengong and as that develops so will the 'form' structure take root. Just trying to be rational, I think!

You can tell he's got it just from the way he sits in mabu before he starts moving.
