I've always loved his stuff-- very methodical and informative. His style seems to be a blend of WC, Silat, and Kuntao.

In the Bagua system I train, we don't actually put our mind on "getting a sweep." Instead, we simply try to connect with the opponent and "move." When that happens, the Bagua footwork -- toe-in and toe-out steps -- allows the sweeps to happen naturally.

I thought I smelled Chimay on Bobbe's breath last time I saw him.

The thing i really like about the Kuntao is that is seems to be a repository for CMA technology. I think much of what CMA used to be (still is in many lines, lost in may others) is preserved in the Kuntao, so when you look at it, you can see elements of many styles or the core essences all wrapped into one system.

From what I see, it's not a style itself, but the raw material of martial technologies that you use to build your own style.

Actually, "Kun Tao" in Southern Chinese Fukien dialect means "fist," and is traditionally used interchangeably with martial arts. Even in Taiwan nowadays, old-time masters would refer to themselves as "kun tao sai hu "(martial arts teachers).

great stuff and great teaching. i had just been asking myself how to better train the sweeps (rasteira) in capoeira, what were the principles involved - points of movement, direction and balance where sweeps can be applied effortlessly, etc...

and here he is, with the same stepping and effortless body movement, "not big and overbearing" minimal commitment, timing on the step or as it comes down - as angola.

seems like there's quite a bit of really nice silat and kali out there.
