The teacher is obivously skilled in angling, evasion, and manipulating structure.

It's said that Wang Xiang-Zhai used western boxing as a reference in formulating his new art. And the more I see good Yi-Chuan, the more I am reminded of boxing's body movements.

I don't recall Wang ever writing about using western boxing techniques. Yiquan wasn't a "new art". It was just hsingyiquan (along with some shaolin, bagua, taiji & who knows what else) stripped of pre arranged forms.

Yiquan isn't supposed to look like boxing or dancing about flailing one's arms while hopping around.

As for Yang Lin Sheng he looks like he has some skill but isn't showing anything very special in my opinion. The yiquan I've been exposed to uses much smaller movements to control and beat the opponent. Still it's kind of hard to tell how good one is from that second video. The first one wouldn't load on my computer.

Why does he push the people away?

I'm not trying to start shit, I just can't figure out the benefit of doing this.

To show a point where he could hit, without actually hurting them.

There is more to pushing away - making opponent hit hard object with his body, making him fall from stairs, fall over some ballustrade or bench etc. Actually yiquan training in China can be a bit shocking for those who are not used to this kind of stuff, and are training mainly on nice mat. Years ago I was shocked myself, when starting learning with Yao Chengguang and his assistants. It was like pushing you when there was a stone just behind your foot, or pushing you in right direction to make you hit a tree, or to force you to jump over a bench or small fence. I saw many times Bu Yi playing by pushing people toward some hard object in such a way, that they would be hurt if they hit it, but in last moment saving them, by next short push in other direction.

Dacheng,

Are you referring to Bu Yi who studied with Han Xing Qiao?
