yeh man i love that highlight, been picking my way through it slowly, that RDLR sweep at the start where he backs away dragging their front leg is lovely, takes so many people by surprise.

I am talking about the one where he hooks the opposite leg and kicks the hip away then comes to the top.... that probably doesnt help with so many techs in there haha.

Kid received her yellow belt yesterday. Proud papa moment.

Earlier in the week when she was sparring with her instructor, she threw an omoplata, he rolled out, and she smoothly transitioned to armbar. How many years did it take me to figure that sequence out much less pull it off during rolling?

The journey continues.

Been doing that roll back for years! I'm luckily if my feet touch the mat, let alone my knees :-\

Yeah, me too...with similar results these days lol.

I was just blown away by how stretchy his back and neck are.

I've been looking at a lot of very tight, controlled guard passers lately - Marcelo springs to mind. Then I watch the floating, loose, style of Leandro Lo and it just blows me away. Totally different, yet so effective.

He's a giant though, and I wonder if you need to be tall to pull that off?

well, he beat Romulo and Galvao at the Pan Ams and they aren't exactly small chaps! He is a bit of a BJJ freak. Did you see Copa podio when he had to cut weight and talked about his diet ... 2ltrs of Coke a day and a diet mainly composed of burgers and the like....

I imagine with that guard passing style he has no problem burning off that much sugar :)

We've got a tall lanky guy that plays more of the Lo style of passing.

I tend away from the tight, controlled passing because I am small and weak. It is way too easy for someone else to use their strength to thwart that type of passing so I prefer a more mobile passing game where I am on my feet looking for angles and moments rather than bulling through and rather than looking to get to a near side control, I will look for N-S, far side, or even a submission off the pass. Or sometimes I am looking to get to a pre-cut through knee on belly position to get the pass. (Of course, this is just the small, weak, and old guy strategy. Other old guys just grip, crush, and smother.)

And the final caveat is that I am much more of the guard player.
