Thanks, with a gi I don't usually have trouble.

My no gi go to move is to essentially headlock their thigh with the arm that gets caught. Keep it tight so it's hard for them to move, gain posture and sooner or later they'll release it. But you have to watch for the oma plata.

I'll try standing more.

Right on Graham! It's pure gold! I'm glad you like it. This move is changing my game. Once I feel like the sweep is solid I'm going to start doing the calf crunch. -devil-

It's lazy man's jiujitsu. Like you said kind of like the X and kind of like deep half but without all the hard work to get there.

Heh :) - have some sympathy for your training partners though - I got calf crunched today (newbie big guy who had done some MMA before went for a straight ankle lock, but I didn't tap so he started rolling around and the lock went higher up the leg until it was on the calf - ouch!) and I'm still hobbling around - that shit hurts and it stays with you! Last time I got one it took a few days for the stiffness to go....

Yeah, I go easy on leglocks and usually let them go most of the time if they don't tap, in fact usually I just catch and release.

This is why I don't understand why Cesar's guy felt the need to break a MT instructor's knee when be didn't tap.

And on the other side of it, more alongside Graham's story -- if I'm rolling with someone like the guy he described, then I just tap whenever they get anywhere near one (i.e. if they have your foot wrapped, maybe even poorly and you think they probably won't "have it" -- doesn't matter; just tap). I'd rather work on not letting them have my feet in the first place, than risk serious injury. Don't let your ego get you hurt.

But, of course, if I know that the guy is nice and "sane" and wouldn't do whatever the hell it takes to try and submit (instead of focusing on learning more/better JJ) -- then we can experiment with actually "getting" foot locks properly.

(You've probably heard all this before, but worth repeating I think.)

I've got weird ankles - I don't tap to ankle locks - you can pull on that sucker all day and it won't make me tap, so usually I just smile at the guy until he stops - I'd forgotten that big guys quite often calf slice you into the bargain with their massive forearms ;D Lesson learned!

In sambo they say the ankle lock is for your friends and the heel hook is for your enemies.

I hear now guys are wrapping the heel instead of the ankle and torquing the foot in competition. Ouch!

Thanks I actually just did a similar sweep starting from the deep half butterfly. I couldn't control the other leg so I went to an x guard to control his right leg and then I controlled his left arm and rolled him to his left.

Btw, here are some triangle escapes. I used this video because it shows one that I've been using a lot which is the first one at 2:00. Except I feed my other hand through, Gable grip it, press against their leg and pop out. I also do the one at 4:30 but I just throw my legs over the guy like a Boston crab.

Lots of good escapes there. May be never get triangled again!
