It's Samuel Kwok. Maybe he is better known in the uk where he is a prominent ip man wing chun instructor and as the film says, trained with Bruce Lee ::)

This is the problem! :D

Just my two pfennigs: Blocking with the elbows as shown in the video is pretty much what was taught in hand-to-hand combat for field operatives back in the 1960's - and with proper reaction training is pretty effective.

I agree. If trained correctly and paired with good body movement, horizontal and vertical elbows and their variants can work very well in defense as well as offense.

To be fair despite the fact he's good entertainment he looks tough and aggressive. And he's clearly put the time and effort in to finding out what works. Nothing wrong with limb destruction stuff like that, it's no more unrealistic than being able to slip or parry a full power punch. You would be hard pushed to find more practical and better tested wing chun.

IMO Fights look damn near what I saw in the bare knuckle fight vid (there's a shit load of fists of fury that get thrown, usually the dude that takes a good one to the brain bucket attempts a clinch, then sometimes the fight goes to the ground in a heap. The flurry of fist usually thrown is why once one losses the initiative, traps for the most part become infective, Same imo goes for alot (but not all) of the sticky hands or push hands stuff. I believe in simplicity with those skill sets Yea one can get good at simple traps or attaching & adhering by working off some form of shielding as in the WC vid (in fact I'd recommend working on hard wiring some form of shielding then counter over sticky hands or push hands practice any day... but hey that's me)

nice elbow workout vid sean
