Nice, internal without being flashy. does the 'late' indicate deceased or a later student

Ciao,

I expose some of my doubts.

I see that the movement is only shoulder, the movement of waist where it is?

the elbows are always at the top, it looks like a dance.

Finally, the video is old or present day?

Given all the baroque versions of Chen Fake's "xinjia" forms - Feng Zhiqiang's form has had a lot of extra circles added, while the Chen Zhaokui/Chen Yu version seems to have added all kinds of movement in the lower back - it is good to see something as plain and austere as this.

Ciccio:

In orthodox Chen Taiji, the waist does not move independently of the torso; her shenfa looks right on to me. Don't know where her "elbows" are up: Again, looks good to me. But FWIW, if you look at Feng Ziqiang, an acknowledged grandmaster, his right elbow always looked higher than it should be to my eyes....

Ciao Andy,

I do not have the know how to answer, do not know the chen style and history of tai chi, they were just my personal doubts.

I see from the video that many movements start from the arms, not from the body and the shoulder always high and not low.

Is just my opinion.

Well there are a number of points here, this should be considered as a historical video nothing more.

The practitioner does not claim "mastery" and we have no real way of knowing what her skill level was. I'm sure even Chen Fake had students who weren't total badasses!

That said IMHO the stand out thing i see is that she is rotating around her spine, no significant lateral movement of the spine and weight transfer is a result of that rotation. Good stuff!

As for the elbows, they do look high but if you watch Chen village people, their elbow look comparable to the lady in the clip.

It is very difficult to see if she is moving her arms only due to clothing (steady yourself Andy no joke required) and quality of the film.

Like i said a nice historical film of how Chen taiji was performed by a student of Chen Fake, that's pretty much it.

I have no connections to the film - just found it floating around.

I prefer Chen Peishan's sister as a benchmark - I think her fajin is outstanding:
