I can't comment on that. However, what is shown in this video appears to me to be essentially the same as shown in Sigman's videos, regardless of the words used to describe it.

Perhaps at a sufficiently basic level, it is all the same. Perhaps it diverges from there.

When I watched Sigman's stuff Allah knows how many years ago I just saw aikido. So I guess it might just be viewpoint. Well done Jess. 8-)

Can you suggest some methods/exercises to practice opening the mingmen?

one could try some of these, I'm sure there are many different methods, ime most people
are tight in this area. this exercise will help to open and loosen up the back.

Thanks Windwalker. That one is already part of my routine. I still cannot go all the way down but I can squat lower now than when I started.

About five years ago I had an accident with a heavy piece of equipment that totally screwed up my energy. I haven't recovered fully, and my thoracolumbar aponeurosis has been weak and spasmic since. It has improved by leaps and bounds but it was a pretty bad soft tissue injury, and I haven't done enough targeted exercise and therapy to ideally recover. I am fit and can do a lot of things well, but when I got this injury I was in prime shape, and only had to sleep for a few hours a night. I could do Gao Bagua all day. Now I have a lot of strength, but my energy isn't the same. I do spend time training specifically for the lower back, but I clearly have some tension in the lower back and shoulders that is limiting. Thanks for pointing that out and giving me a reminder to work on it.

Thank you. I like sharing. I need to train more. It's been harder lately. Weddings and funerals and business, oh my.

Yeah I'm in sort of the same situation as yourself. Trying to straighten out the back literally and metaphorically. It's hard work as I'm sure you can attest to. But I think more meditation is probably in order and is the only thing that can really help, which I believe you do from mentioning on previous threads. So I would say do as much as you can.

Thanks Jess I liked it. I'd be very interested in seeing how you use these ideas from something like a pummel over/under or a head/arm tie.

hey jesse,
just watched ur video. that was cool dude. i explain it another way/do other stuff. but yeah it's all related and plays a part based on what he does & if you can see/feel it too.
yes, switching force between feet & via different arms etc. is good to show & point out. so yeah the swallow and spit idea is very much a big part of our art, more so than many others.

thaks again, what will you do next time, hint, hint! ;D namaste
when you misinterpret my words please don't blame me for that; or act like i said what you changed based on a faulty interpretation instead of taking my words as written ! (I know, this is the internet, but that doesn't mean you can put words in my mouth)
