Wu Fast Form

Postby slowEdie on Tue Mar 17, 2015 6:44 pm

Just found this ....very different from anyone else I've seen. I like it a lot.
Does anyone know this guy??
Or any thoughts?

Special thanks to my teacher Dr. Li Li Qun....who is a senior disciple of Master Ma Yeuh Liang.

wu style taiji fast form, wu family traditional form, Dr. Li Li Qun is a senior disciple of Ma Yeuh Liang, the Wu fast form according to master Ma is very close to the form taught by Yang Lu Chan and Yang Ban Hou, the purely slow forms of taiji were derived from this form at a later date

Strangely, I have an ex-work colleague, who has the exact same name as the late Li Liqun (even the same Chinese characters!).

Of course, he hates CMA, and wants nothing to do with it :D

In the clip of Dr. Li's fast form you will find at:

6:47 mark - nice spear form

8:52 mark - a dao form I really like

and then a very nice jian form.

That is Bruce performing the form, he was a disciple of Dr. Li Li who I believe passed away. In 1996 our team went to Shanghai for the bi-annual Shanghai wushu festival. At our hotel was a big park and we met Dr. LiLi and his group. They were performing the Wu fast form. Several of us learned some of it and the push hands with their group while there as they were friendly and open to share. Dr. Shear brought Dr. Li Li to USA for an extended stay and seminars. Several of them became disciples. Bruce is now doing Chen style, and a few others who are disciples still do the Wu forms. Dr. Shear and Robert Ruby usually have a team that competes in tournaments. Robert won full contract heavy weight Lei Tai a few years in a row and several push hands events. They also competed in China a few times.

Yes, really liked his rendition of the form. I read in his YouTube post that he has also done/does Chen style, which might explain why I liked it - there is a bit of a silk reeling quality in his movements, and his dang is very rounded in the Chen manner.

That having been said:
Having now done Chen for 20 years (Egad!) if I had a good opp, I would be interested in learning some Wu.

It is a very different style to Chen, but I: like their forms; they seem to produce a lot of skilled guys; some of their PH is very good; and their apps look to me to be the gold standard for Taiji.

Another one here that is quite nice, too:

Yeah, I do like his form but not as much as Bruce's , some of the movements are very different, totally different take on
"Repulse monkey". Michael Actons "Eternal Spring" I find really enjoyable,

Yes, kind of a nice-looking qigong, though I prefer taiji, as a rule.

The chap seems to live in a Tolkeinish rural idyll. Surely, he can't have made that from teaching Tai Chee? If so, I had better head back to the UK...?

I have two friends who train with this girls teacher Sifu Zhou
I find all their stuff really good
Don't put power into the form let it naturally arise from the form
