Nice, these are huge concepts, and any martial artist worth their salt should re-examine these in their own practice regularly.

The initiative
1) Hit or don't hit
If you lead and the is no obstacle,you strike.
If there is interference you remove the obstacle and strike.
If there is strong interference, you destroy the obstacle while striking.
The initiative is bait.
The point . is absolute

These three concepts do indeed show up over and over again. In Western fencing you have direct attacks, of course, parries followed by ripostes, and attacking into the attack in a single tempo.

I define internal martial art as unusual muscle recruitment and leave it at that. If my definition is incomplete, at least it is correct so far as it goes.
