Systema - good vid

Postby GrahamB on Wed Sep 16, 2015 12:43 pm

Finally, something showing how systema drills relate to combat. Finally? We'll probably not the first, but good to see some context added in at the end. I like.

Interesting that nobody comments on this - that's usually just a sign that nobody can find anything they don't like ;D

in the staff work it didnt seem like the attackers had any had any real intent of extension,
stopping at the skin, allowing the one training to be able to change.

they'er following him with the sticks, he is not reacting with their intention,,,who is training who?

would the person training be able to move with this type of striking being used...

This was how Systema began on the 10th century battlefields of the Caucasus when the great Russian tactician...

Oh, never mind.

When I first checked it out I was tempted to comment that based on your remarks in the OP, I was expecting to see something more... That clip was just basic, run of the mill, everyday Systema training. Your remarks made me think it was going to be something extraordinary, while the video was just ordinary.

Kind of off topic but I wonder if they have really good medicine for treating injuries from these training? I guess perhaps it's a first world problem and they just shrug it off but it seems you can get permanent injuries training like this pretty easily. I was also hoping to see some kind of use w/ the staff section of the shield but did not notice any. Feels like it really doesn't do much, though I suppose it allows one to block low w/o reaching w/ the shield.

The staff section seems to control the space around the shield making it bigger with out adding more weight or mass to it, kinda smart the shield part
looks like it just protects the hand holding it.

also looks like they understand what happens when one is on the ground. not a good place to be.
The action is stopped and the person is allowed to recover
understanding though experience that normally its not possible. same as CMA arts.

Thanks for the clip. That makes more sense when the shield is that small. In the earlier clip there were some large shields that made the extra stick seem redundant.
