What's important is finding a woman who has the proper sized scabbard to fit the sword-- encases the whole length of blade and covers a bit of the hilt which prevents the tip of the blade poke through the end of the scabbard.

Yes....There is a branch of Tao study using this approach. Some even go for brand new scabbard.

It is my understanding, In Taoist study the emphasis in not the sword but the scabbard, as it must be young and fresh that the sword may benefit from the essence of its while no mate er it's length or girth, the sword emits no essence.

I have heard from an old Lama Master that some Lama monk use scabbard for the sword. Some swords and scabbards work together, but some swords take benefit from a fresh scabbards. Other monks have their training with their own swords, and scabbards. And the point of cultivation for swords and scabbards are different. I don't go there as somebody warns me the first stage of those training is to hide the horse dick. Maybe he is kidding me but it scares the sh** out of me.

I was once [almost 25 years ago now] sitting at a banquet table in honour of Yang Jwing Ming during a workshop he was giving in Montreal and someone there asked him about Taoist sexual practices. Two of his comments that stuck in my mind were that "such was as good an excuse as any to have sex" and a bit later on during the same conversation that "many of the practices in monasteries in Taiwan that were common even in his life-time would now be called sexual abuse."

Which reminded me of the Orthodox Monks on Mt Athos in Greece who were forbidden in the early Middle Ages to have female servants on the mountain; a few years later the Good Fathers put out another edict that no female animals were allowed either. Forced celibacy often leads some down strange corridors [and yes, that is what I mean].

Just to go against the flow of this thread, I'm actually going to comment on the video posted by wanderingdragon. That is amazing early footage of Yao Zongxun's training, doing zhan zhuang, shi li, tuishou and working with Yiquan's staff, very very precious to anyone who practices the Yao branch of Yiquan (or indeed other Yiquan people).

Although as always with Yiquan / Dachengquan, the real value are the visualisations (yinian jiajie) which are going on inside, and to get those you will have to ask his sons / disciples!

I was told by a student of Wang Xiang zhai that Wang's thinking was very forward at his time. He didn't like the disciple system and all of his students called him Mr. Wang.
