Adam Mizner – Unthrowable w/o Rooting (Song & Ting)

Interesting. However, not sure about the immovable preventing throw part. “Sifu Adam Mizner teaches Yang Style Taijiquan (Tai Chi Chuan), in the tradition of Huang Sheng Shyan and Yang Shao Hou.”

@ 2:19 to 2:40 “You see I don’t use root. No root. Maybe you get me slightly off the ground. Song. Feet already gone. Sink the chi. I drop:”

I like functionality!
When the opponent tries to apply/use 'arm drag/pull' he is repulsed by 'angles', or song where Mizner just "opens' forearm and let the fellow go!

This is very simple anti throw stuff. No need to 'sink the chi' etc.

I taught these tricks to a group of grapplers recently and they could all do it after just an hour with the right conceptual information and practice. We control sparred at the end with one partner trying any throw or take down (bar single and double legs) at full speed and power in free exchange and the other using these concepts. I only saw a couple of throws completed.

Cheers
Chris

I wouldn't get caught up too much in the terminology. To my eyes, this teacher (Adam Mizner) is showing a good level of fundamental taiji qualities such as ting (listening), song (relaxation) and peng ('inflated' whole body power) in this video.

Agreed. You don't have to learn a whole taiji curriculum to be able to do this.

I would ask the same. Rooting is something you just know and use instinctively after you learned it, and it's very hard to not use. What would would be the point of no root? Can't figure out what's the point of what he says. It's like saying "I don't bike" while riding the bike. I'll guess his qi would ride it for him. :-\ ???

IMO, he's mostly relying on his superior structure (peng in the body) to "jam" and prevent himself from being thrown by an opponent who is moving like an average joe.

He's Buddhist, Not a cult. His whole art is based on Buddhist teachings.
I know him. I I.M. and skyped with Adam for years. He's really a great guy and a good taijiquan instructor.
I like his teaching and his understanding of Buddhism. His methods are truly getting transferred to his students
and that's rare in itself.

Nice throne he's got there. The amulet of power is funky too.

If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck and quacks like s duck, then it's a duck.

oh, come on...he's Buddhist lol!
He really is, he acts just like that on skype.
haven't talk to him a while. lost track of him couple years ago.
he searched all over for the best taiji he could find, I know that because he wrote or
skyped with me from Australia, Thailand, Malaysia. just all over the place.
he's a funny guy. exotic, yes, but funny and good.

Here check this one out.
This is what happened about maybe 8 years ago. Adam went searching all over the place
to find people with very high level taiji. he found someone in Malaysia who was beating him
every time. he wrote me about it. The guy was just too fast with his techniques.
He stayed in Malaysia and learned that guys system and
brought it back with him to his students.
Notice how fast they got in this video. This is just after his upgrade. starting at 5:00

I know Buddhists and they don't sit on thrones... Or make up titles for themselves.

Plus there was that thing with his brother...
