Well, so long as we know how to label things - that's the important thing after all, not what anybody is actually doing - lol ;D

that's all taiji and BAD taiji too. lol!

Thanks, you proved my point - it is "bad taiji" because it isn't taiji at all. I did taiji for some time previously, so I know what taiji is. I know what bad taiji is as well, though these days it's very rare I'll comment negatively on anything, especially something I haven't experienced first hand

Yeah, well I have too, my first yang style teacher did almost all the same things in that video.
except my yang style teacher was better.

Cool , do you you have any video of him showing ground engagement or working freestyle against unscripted movements?

Willie, Does your Yang taiji teacher know what the color of the boathouse at Hereford is?

Ask him "What's the color of the boathouse at Hereford?!" Repeat: "What's the color of the boathouse at Hereford?!!!"

The simple rule of thumb goes like this.

Recognise something and or like it - "it's all just tai chi anyway"
Don't recognise it and or like it - "it's not tai chi, that's a waste of your time anyway [insert any manner of unsound reasoning for why that might be]"

The Golden rule of thumb is thus:

Whatever, however and whomever: "my teacher is always and will always be better than you, your teacher and anyone you happen to think is any good. Period"

I will ask, he reads here, knows everything I say and says nothing.
he had a very strange style of taiji, he trained all over the place.
even rolling our heads together like in that video, we did that too.
he trained in the east, the west, china everywhere.

Cool - so it wasn't Yang style then? Only I trained with a lot of Yang style and Yang family people and never saw the head roll thing. Or did I miss it?

honestly I don't know, it is a strange form of yang style, nothing like CMC lineage or the guys from clears.
like I said, I have to be careful what I say because I will get a phone call or 2 if I'm incorrect I'm my statements.
My Yang style teacher is why I got involved with taiji in the first place. I respect him completely, I'm just into Chen now.
And that's not just Chen either, it is a hybrid from Zhang Lu Ping.

windwalker,
Different type of change of balance, however may be your area of study. :)

I'll add another video, sort of similar to OP. @ 16:12 Ian shows resisting and emptying one side to change balance.

Cai is the most magical of the 8 tai chi energies. It is often translated as "pluck" or "pull down", but the highest level of this skill actually involves no pulling whatsoever:

Oh OK, so it was kind of like a hybrid Yang style? I only ask as I trained mostly with the Yang Family line, via Yang Sau Cheung and also some others.
So that's a hybrid Yang and a hybrid Chen you have studied
